A councilor from the city of São Manoel do Paraná (PR) was surprised by an attack by a donkey, while walking along the sidewalk of the city's main avenue. Renato de Vicente (PSD), 38 years old, was attacked in the chest.

“He bit me and I pulled. I think this aggravated the injury. […] I could barely breathe because of the pain,” he said, in an interview with Terra .

The case happened on the morning of this Saturday, 2, and security cameras recorded the moment. In the video obtained by the councilor, it is possible to see him walking along the sidewalk of Avenida Indianopolis and greeting some people. The animal that attacked him was still tied to a cart, behind a tree. Even though the cart was on the street, the donkey was on the sidewalk, with its head close to the pedestrians.

When approaching the animal, Renato was surprised by a bite to the chest, and as a result his body was pulled towards the cart. At the same time as the accident, a child walked by with a woman next to the councilor, on the other side of the sidewalk.

In an interview with the reporter, Renato explained that he went to the 'outside' side of the sidewalk when he saw the woman passing by with the child, which he does out of habit.

“However, at the angle I was at, I didn’t realize that the horse had its head close to the tree. As he was in the sun, I imagine he went forward so his head was in the shade,” he explained.

The accident happened near his home. After the scare, he headed towards the gate of his residence and was supported by a friend. The animal's owner, who was in a bar in the region, was also called.

The councilor was medicated, received a rabies vaccine and is still being monitored by the municipal health team. The animal will also continue to be monitored over the next few days, to check for possible signs of rabies that could alter Renato's treatment. The case was registered with the city's Military Police.

“I thank God that it was with an adult and that it was in the chest. Because if the attack happened to a child or someone more fragile, or even if the animal grabbed the neck, the worst could have happened. Now there is a scare and learning experience for everyone”, he pondered.

The Terra report contacted the Military Police and the city hall of São Manoel do Paraná, in search of more details about the incident, but received no response until the publication of this article. The text will be updated in case of a response.
