In the early hours of Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th August of this month, a violent altercation shook the centre of Elche when a group of eight young people carried out a brutal attack on a nightclub bouncer. The incident took place in front of the La Comedia pub, on Carrer Trinquet, during the city's patron saint festivities, causing commotion among the witnesses present.
The confrontation began when, according to several witnesses, the bouncer, who was off duty and enjoying the night, allegedly attacked one of the young men in the group as he left the club. This incident allegedly triggered a violent chain reaction, in which the other members of the group, led by one of them who used a branch from a nearby tree as an improvised weapon, pounced on the bouncer.
Within seconds, the other seven youths joined in the attack, beating the man with kicks and punches, even after he fell to the ground, completely defenceless. A video captured by a witness shows the cruelty of the attack, as a young woman who witnessed the scene desperately pleaded for help from the nightclub security guards: “Please defend him, they are going to kill him.” Despite the pleas, the security workers, apparently fearful for their own safety, did not intervene in the fight.
Fortunately, despite the severity of the attack, the doorman did not suffer any life-threatening injuries. In a video that he later shared on social media, he can be seen with multiple bumps and bruises on his face, arms and torso, but no serious injuries that would require hospitalisation. The victim, who was not working at the time of the incident, had simply gone out to enjoy the night, a fact that has caused even more outrage among those who know the details of the event.
At this time, no further details have been revealed about the circumstances leading up to the attack, nor have those responsible been publicly identified. However, the images captured by witnesses and shared on social media could be key to the investigation that is already underway.
