Police officer shot and killed by former inmate who was imprisoned for 17 years - Colombia

In the early hours of Sunday, September 8, Police Chief Rubén Cadavid, 37, was murdered in an alleged case of intolerance in the Santo Domingo neighborhood, south of Cali.

The officer was in a commercial establishment when a man who had spent 17 years in prison pulled out a firearm and shot him five times, causing his immediate death.

The acting commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police, William Castaño Ramos, confirmed that the attacker has been fully identified and that investigations are underway to determine his whereabouts.

“Unfortunately, at around 2:00 in the morning, a regrettable event occurred in which a National Police Chief, Rubén Cadavid, died,” confirmed the acting commander.

According to the information that the authorities have managed to gather regarding the case, it was learned that “there was an argument inside the establishment and in the middle of the situation this person approaches him, continues the argument and that is when it hits him, shooting him causing his death.”

Superintendent Cadavid was assigned to the El Guabal police station and had 18 years of service in the institution.
