BENGALURU: A five-year-old boy was run over by a mini goods vehicle near Nagawara in northeast Bengaluru Friday evening. The boy was busy playing, when he inadvertently collided with a scooter parked on the roadside. The impact caused the boy to fall and he came under the wheels of a mini-truck passing by the area.

The deceased was identified as Taheer Pasha, an UKG student of a preschool in Nagawara. Citing preliminary investigation, police said Taheer was playing outside his maternal grandmother's house. Around 6.18pm, a mini-truck was passing by. Taheer was running alongside the vehicle. He hit the scooter, which was parked in front of a house, belonging to a person identified as Syed Israr, and fell on the road. He rolled to the left side and came under the rear wheel of the mini truck.

The driver immediately applied the brake. Taheer's parents rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where the doctors suggested they take him to Dr BR Ambedkar Hospital. The doctors there declared him brought dead on arrival around 7pm.

Taheer's father, Tanveer Pasha, works in a mobile sales and service shop in the KR Market area. Taheer is survived by his parents and a two-year-old brother.

KG Halli traffic police have registered a case against the vehicle and arrested its driver, Prashanth and are investigating.

Speaking to TOI, Tanveer said, "I think the person, who parked the two-wheeler on the roadside is at fault. The building owner has built a slope occupying three feet of the road to take his four-wheeler inside the gate. The scooter was parked on the roadside after the three-feet slope. Parking on the roadside, especially on narrow roads, should be banned by the govt," he said.
