Thiago Fernandes da Silva, 23, died at the scene of the crime, in Camaragibe, in Greater Recife. The police officer was beaten after the crime, taken to a health unit and arrested in flagrante delicto.

A motorcycle app rider was shot dead by a military police officer at the end of a race in Camaragibe , in Greater Recife (see video above). Images sent to TV Globo show the PM shooting the victim, Thiago Fernandes Bezerra, 23, who died in the middle of the street. The police officer was beaten by residents after the crime and taken to a hospital , according to the Pernambuco Department of Social Defense (SDS).

The murder took place on Sunday (1st), on Rua Barão de São Francisco, in the Alberto Maia neighborhood. A .38 caliber revolver was seized from the police officer, who was arrested in flagrante delicto. The police officer was identified as Venilson Cândido da Silva, 50 years old, according to the police report.

According to the document, witnesses to the crime told the police that there was an argument at the end of a race, which led the police officer to shoot the motorcyclist . There is no information about what motivated the argument between Venilson and Thiago. There were only 16 seconds between the moment the police officer got off the motorcycle and shot the victim.

The police officer was beaten after being found inside a bus near the crime scene . Other motorcyclists who were in the area attacked the police officer wearing helmets until he was taken away in a Military Police vehicle . It is not known what the health condition of the police officer is, as it was not reported which hospital he was taken to.

The crime led to a protest by residents, which left traffic blocked on Monday morning (2), on Avenida Belmino Correia, the city's main road ( find out more below ).

According to the Department of Social Defense, the police officer was arrested for homicide, and the case will be investigated by the 10th Homicide Police Precinct. The Department of Social Defense also stated that the police officer will face administrative proceedings, which may result in his expulsion from the Military Police.

Thiago's body was released from the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML), located in the Santo Amaro neighborhood, in downtown Recife, on the morning of this Monday (2), and was taken to the Camaragibe Cemetery, where the wake and burial will take place in the afternoon.

Protest A group of residents held a protest on Monday (2) demanding justice for the death of Thiago Fernandes Bezerra, on Avenida Belmino Correia, one of the main roads in Camaragibe, which connects the city to Recife. The protesters gathered in the Timbi neighborhood and blocked both directions of the road, burning tires and debris. The protest ended around 8 am.
