A teen boy who was shot and killed Tuesday by a store manager during an armed robbery at Sam's Meat Market in New Orleans East was identified Thursday morning by the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office.

New Orleans Police Department officers responded to the call at 7:52 p.m. in the 8400 block of South I-10 Service Road, where the store manager shot 16-year-old Cecil Batiz and the second suspect, 18-year-old Teony Juarez.

Paramedics transferred Batiz to the hospital, where he later died. Juarez, who was injured by the gunfire, was arrested and booked into Orleans Parish jail on four felony counts relating to the armed robbery, officials said.

The store manager had not been charged with any counts as of Wednesday, according to NOPD.

Surveillance footage obtained by The Times-Picayune shows two people entering the business at 7:29 p.m. and pointing guns at two employees as they opened the store's registers.

As the suspects begin to walk away from the counters, one employee opens fire at the alleged robbers. One falls to the ground as the other flees the scene.
