A patient at the Municipal Hospital of Morrinhos, in the southern region of Goiás, who has not yet been identified, took a nurse hostage on Saturday night (18). Images recorded by people who witnessed the scene show the young man with a piece of glass removed from a window that he himself had broken moments before. According to preliminary information, the man had a psychotic episode. The man ended up being killed by the Military Police.

The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m., when the man was hospitalized in the unit's ICU. The military arrived at the scene and began negotiating for the individual to release the health professional. However, instead, the man became even more aggressive. At one point, the victim tried to get away from him, which caused both of them to fall to the floor near a stretcher.

According to reports from those who witnessed the scene, when the man did not let go of the woman and even tried to cut her with the glass, the officers intervened and shot him. According to information gathered shortly after the incident, the officers intended to hit the suspect in the leg, but the shot ended up hitting his abdomen.

The man was rescued by the medical team, but he did not survive his injuries and died. The nurse, despite being psychologically shaken and in a state of shock, did not suffer serious injuries.

The Morrinhos City Hall stated that the municipality will provide all necessary psychological support to hospital professionals and the attacker's family, in addition to implementing measures to reinforce security at the site.
