A 28-year-old male motorcycle rider died after he crashed while allegedly racing a fellow rider on Marilaque Highway in Tanay, Rizal, this weekend.

According to Tanay police, the victim crashed into a concrete barrier in Barangay Cuyambay, which caused his death.

The 26-year-old who was allegedly racing with him and six other individuals who were all spectators and standing by the side of the road were injured.

“They were raising their legs while they were going fast. That’s why they crashed. It wasn’t just the two motorcycles that were involved, there were six other victims who were hit by the two motorcycles,” said PLt.Col. Norman Cas-oy, Tanay police chief.

The Marilaque Highway is a common hangout for motorcycle riders. It is also where riders often hold various exhibitions to show off.

“There are a lot of people, because it’s the weekend, a lot of people hang out. The vloggers are there, taking videos, pictures. That’s why such incidents happen because they want to be famous,” Cas-oy added.

The victims were immediately rushed to the hospital. The 28-year-old rider was declared dead on arrival while the other victims suffered injuries in various parts of their bodies. The injured were also released from the hospital on Sunday night.

According to the police, the 26-year-old man shouldered the funeral expenses of the deceased and the medical expenses of the other injured.
