A video circulating in message groups on Wednesday night (02/19) shows the moment when a man, identified as Leandro Marques, 62 years old, is knocked down during a rescue carried out by agents of the Amazonas Military Fire Department (CBMAM). The accident happened around 6 pm in the Educandos neighborhood, south of Manaus.
According to preliminary information, the victim would have taken an electric shock on the roof of the house while cleaning a gutter. The death of the elderly man was confirmed in a Bulletin of Occurrence registered by the family.
According to preliminary information, family members heard a falling noise the moment the elderly person received the electric shock. A team from the Specialized Homicide and Kidnapping Police Station was called, along with the firefighters.
The video in question shows the exact moment when four firefighters rescue the elderly man on the roof. During the procedure, the safety ladder falls, pulling the stretcher where the elderly man was, which ends up plummeting to the ground. The entire action was recorded on video.
Relatives of the elderly man reported that he was still alive before the rescue, raising the hypothesis that Leandro may have died as a result of the fall. The family stated that it intends to file a lawsuit against the State.
Until the closing of this matter, there was no confirmation of the exact cause of Leandro's death. Examinations of the Forensic Medical Institute (IML) should determine whether the death was caused by the electric shock or by the fall suffered during the rescue.
