In the early hours of Wednesday, Ciudad del Este was the scene of a violent assault that claimed the life of a security guard. The victim, identified as Pablo Hernán Yurtz , 35, was guarding a commercial premises in the Belén neighborhood when four armed criminals broke into the area aboard a white car without a license plate.

According to witnesses, without warning, one of the attackers shot directly at the guard, seriously wounding him in the chest. Although the victim tried to react with his weapon, he had no chance to defend himself and died on the spot.

After the crime, the criminals went to a nearby house with the intention of stealing high-end cell phones. However, when they did not find the expected loot, they stole three mobile phones and the sum of one million guaraníes before fleeing.

The case is being investigated by local authorities, who are analysing security camera images in an attempt to identify those responsible and find their whereabouts. The community of Ciudad del Este is shocked by the incident and is demanding greater security in the face of the growing wave of violence that is sweeping the region.
