KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Surveillance footage captures the moment a driver crashed into a Speedway gas station on March 19, injuring several individuals.
The crash occurred around 1 p.m. on South Westnedge Avenue near Denway Drive, prompting a response from officers.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered several people, along with motorcycles and cars, had been struck after the driver veered off the road and collided with a gas pump, according to Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS).
Though no fatalities were reported, seven individuals received treatment for injuries at the scene. One motorcyclist was hospitalized but has since been discharged.
A man who was pumping gas at the time of the crash was also hospitalized. He remained in critical condition for several weeks but has now been released and is undergoing physical rehabilitation, KDPS officials stated.
The driver involved is cooperating with investigators, but no arrests have been made as of Wednesday. Officers are awaiting forensic and toxicology reports to advance the investigation, according to KDPS Public Information Officer Zach Hamelton.
"We appreciate the public’s patience as these investigations take time to fully determine the cause," officers said on March 20. "An update will be provided once the necessary information is available."
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact KDPS' Criminal Investigations Division at 269-337-8139 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
