Elderly man killed after being hit by lorry while returning from Friday prayers - Malaysia

KAMPAR: An elderly man died after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a lorry at Kilometre 26.5, Jalan Ipoh – Kuala Lumpur, here, this evening.

In the incident at about 3pm, the victim, Mazlan Ahmad, 68, who was riding a Honda EX5 motorcycle, was confirmed dead at the scene due to serious injuries.

Kampar District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohamad Nazri Daud, in a statement, announced that initial investigations found that the Nissan lorry driven by a 25-year-old man was travelling from the direction of Simpang Pulai to Bidor.

"The lorry hit the back of the victim's motorcycle as it suddenly exited the Jeram Jamek Mosque area.

"The accident is believed to have occurred when the victim entered the main road without giving way, causing a collision with the lorry in question which was in the Kuala Lumpur lane," he said.

The lorry driver did not suffer any injuries.

Further investigations are still underway and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
