Nashville officer fatally shoots armed man who charged after refusing to drop weapon - Tennessee

Nashville, Tennessee – June 9, 2025 — At approximately 8:44 a.m., a 911 caller reported seeing a distraught man walking along Driftwood Street near Hermitage Avenue, visibly carrying a firearm.

Sergeant Robert Weaver, a 27-year veteran of the Metro Nashville Police Department and the community coordinator for the Hermitage Precinct, heard the dispatch and located the armed individual walking along Hermitage Avenue toward the downtown area.

Sergeant Weaver followed the man and issued multiple commands for him to drop the weapon. After exiting his vehicle, Weaver continued to give verbal commands, but the suspect suddenly charged at him. In response, Sergeant Weaver fired three shots, striking the man.

The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. He had no identification, and authorities are working to confirm his identity through fingerprint analysis and database records.
