A shocking event has shaken Cuenca. On Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 6:27 p.m., surveillance cameras captured heartbreaking images in the Historic Center. Two men leave a butcher shop in full discussion on the streets of San Miguel and Gaspar Sangurima.

The images reveal a critical moment: one of the men, dressed in black, holds a large knife while pushing the other individual, who is wearing jeans, sneakers and a gray sweater.

The argument takes a drastic turn when the man in black stabs the other guy. The confrontation seems to end, and the alleged attacker leaves the place, while the wounded man, identified as 41-year-old Fabián Q., leaves with his hand on the wound and crosses to the opposite sidewalk.

The events take an even darker turn when Fabián Q., leaving a trail of blood, tries to walk away but falls to the ground. Despite the efforts of two bystanders to help him, his condition deteriorates. Calls to 911 mobilize an ambulance from the Cuenca Fire Department, which arrives in a matter of minutes. However, despite the efforts, Fabián Q. died shortly after in the hospital.

The authorities are investigating the case, having identified the attacker and following leads for his capture. Although it has been revealed that Fabian Q. had a criminal record, the reasons behind this tragic incident are still not confirmed.
