Security cameras show the suspect arriving at the scene and shooting the policeman who was at a bar table in the Pajuçara neighborhood.
A military police officer was hit by three gunshots during an attack on Friday night (7), in the North Zone of Natal. The case happened in a bar on Rua Castelo Branco, in the Pajuçara neighborhood, around 9:40 pm. Security camera images recorded the crime.
The policeman was gathered with friends at a bar table, on a sidewalk, when the suspect arrived armed at the scene and fired the shots. The shots hit the victim's abdomen and arm.
The shooter ran away. The motivation of the crime is not yet known.
According to the commander of the State Highway Police Command (CPRE), Major César Fagundes, the victim was taken to Santa Catarina Hospital, where he received medical care and underwent surgery on Saturday morning (8).
On Saturday morning, the Military Police of Rio Grande do Norte issued an official note on the case and identified the victim as Paulo Sérgio de Lima, 51, a police officer belonging to the State Highway Police Command (CPRE).
The statement says that "the possibility of transferring the police officer to the Coronel Pedro Germano Central Hospital, the Military Police Hospital, is being evaluated, which will be carried out at the appropriate time, according to medical indication, ensuring that there is no damage to his recovery".
And it reinforces that "the Military Police closely monitors the evolution of the police officer's clinical picture and reinforces that all measures are being taken to identify and capture those responsible for the crime".
