Mooresville police officer hit by vehicle during pursuit in Morgan County - Indiana
Uploaded On:Wednesday 30th of April 2025
MOORESVILLE, Ind. — The Mooresville Metropolitan Police Department has released bodycam video of the officer who was struck by a car during a police chase Saturday evening in Morgan County.
Mooresville Police Ofc. Chase Pitcock was deploying stop sticks at State Road 67 and Sunset Lane, near Brooklyn, Indiana, around 6:30 p.m. April 26 when he was struck by a suspect car, which drove around the officer’s car.
Pitcock was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with non-life-threatening injuries, Mooresville PD said.
On Sunday, April 27, Mooresville Police Chief Kerry Buckner told 13News that Pitcock had been released from the hospital to continue his recovery at home. Buckner said Pitcock suffered a broken thumb and some sprains. Pitcock was on crutches but is expected to be OK, Buckner said.
“He’s a little shaken up, but physically, he’s good. Got a couple scrapes and bangs, as that would be expected, but he’s doing good,” said MMPD officer Andrew Ballard about his colleague. “Mooresville is a small department, and hearing something like that come across the radio, it would worry you because we’re all so close here. It’s like having a brother get injured or a sister get injured. It’s nothing you ever want to see.”
According to a release from the Brooklyn Police Department, the incident started when Morgan County sheriff’s deputies attempted to pull over a Dodge sports car, which fled at a high speed northbound on State Road 67.
The Mooresville Police Department said the car was originally being chased by police in Monroe County “before eluding their units.” Morgan County sheriff’s deputies located the car in the town of Paragon, which is when the second chase began.
As the chase approached Brooklyn, a Brooklyn police officer attempted to deploy stop sticks, but the suspect drove into oncoming traffic to avoid the stop sticks, the department said.
The chase, which involved several departments, continued into residential areas before the suspect car hit Pitcock.
Buckner said the tag on the suspect car was a fake paper license plate, and that some of the investigative work has been forwarded to IMPD.
After Pitcock was struck, the chase continued north into Hendricks County and was eventually called off in the Camby area “due to the danger its driving posed to the public,” Mooresville PD said.
Anyone with information on the car and/or its occupants is asked to contact either the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office at 765-342-5544 or Mooresville Police Department at 317-831-3434.
